Nickname : Blackie
If he lives long enough, Paul will eventually score enough runs to be the top of the all-time batting tables. Whether anyone will be awake to watch it is another thing. Really in semi-retirement, Paul has blocked his way to many a 20 before holing out after 50 turgid overs going for the big heave. And 59 wickets in 25 years says all you need to know about his 'occasional' bowling.
But 2013 is another year and maybe Paul can force his way back into the 5th team through weight of wallet (shouldn't that be 'weight of runs'? - Ed) and punish those 13 year old bowlers again and again with gentle dabs into the leg side.
But hold on - Paul is the 3rd highest run scorer for the club with 7500+ runs and 24 fifties; his average with the ball is just over 20; and last season he scored 407 runs, with 3 fifties at an average of 22.6. Are his best days behind him, or in front?
On a serious note, Blackie is responsible for the current crop of youngsters coming through the ranks and we hope that maybe other Blackwells will be on top of the averages soon enough.
