Touring Team stamp their mark on Lanzarote winning the 2nd Annual International T20 Cricket Tournament

Over the 20th-23rd March, The Gentleman of Rickmansworth, comprising players from both Rickmansworth and Chenies Cricket Clubs travelled to Lanzarote to participate in the 2nd Annual International T20 Cricket Tournament. Comprising of six teams drawn into two groups of three Rickmansworth faced Shirehampton CC from Bristol and County Clare CC from Ireland.

In the opening game Rickmansworth inserted Shirehampton into bat and restricted them to 165 for 6 from their 20 overs. In reply Rickmansworth batted steadily reaching the target with seven balls to spare to win by five wickets, with Andrew Chapman (48*) being awarded man of the match.

In the second game against Clare some tight bowling restricted the opposition to 157 for 5. Rickmansworth responded with a strong batting display from Fraser Paterson (41*), Michael Horwood (32) and a blistering 48* from man of the match Scott Norwood, chasing down the target in the 16th over for the loss of only 3 wickets.

In the final Rickmansworth faced fellow group winners, hosts and holders Lanzarote. Going into the game with a long unbeaten record on the island, Lanzarote started brightly and set what they believed to be an imposing target of 187. This would have been more but for the bowling of Marc Robinson (2-32) and Brendan Lindsay (2-34). Lanzarote were soon in for a rude awakening as opening pair and joint men of the match Chris Morris (92*) and Fraser Paterson (80*) produced a batting master class. Hitting the ball to all parts of the ground they decimated the Lanzarote bowling, reaching victory with more than six overs to spare to win the trophy and top off a great tour.
