What's on Rob's mind with the start of a new Season approaching ?

It's not the taking part, it's the winning !
- Rob Riddleston, Club Umpire

The new league season is nearly on us and having umpired a couple of friendlies I am hoping for warmer weather in the coming weeks! Whilst the first team has lost both games there is much to be confident about as with both bat and ball there were some strong performances

New Laws this season allows fielders and keepers to change their position after the point of the bowlers delivery so the quick thinking slip can now run to say leg slip to counter the switch hit – now who is going to see that at RCC this Summer?

Key elements from the umpires this season is to see the Sprit of Cricket kept in force and the game played hard but in the right manner. Secondly there is a move to ensure games are completed on time so first innings must be completed in 3 hours (plus drinks/injuries etc) so the pace of the game is important – running between overs to your next position , avoiding fiddling changes to the field and being ready when an incoming batsman arrives.

Its great to welcome Rory all the way from Perth WA and he has fitted in well at the Club - and the bars and pubs in Ricky. Rory and Marty joined Team Riddleston to win the Quiz on Friday night as North & South . A great evening and good fun – but then again its not the taking part that counts its the winning!
