I have now Umpired in 5 weeks of Cricket in 7 games and apart from a few passing showers it’s been good cricket weather for the time of year. With the Laws and Match Regulations unchanged this year it’s made it easier (I use the word loosely) for both Umpires and Players to be on the ball.
I have noticed that many sides are not batting out their 50 over allocation and I am seeing too much free spirit playing in the first 30 to 35 overs before looking at an acceleration at the end. 50 overs is a long time so treat the overs as precious time in the middle.
It was good to come back to the Club on Saturday evening after my game whilst listening on the car radio to the Saracens retain the European Cup and then see the last few overs of the first team winning in front of good support from the 2nds and 3rds and a few spectators. It’s a shame that the lovely setting of RCC is hidden away to the passing motorist and pedestrians as it would be great to get more spectators , better use of the bar and potential new players. How can we publicise the Club more?
Several of the spectators on Saturday were especially pleased to see the new 1st team captain grab his first league victory with the entire extended Riddleston family watching .
Saturday saw all 4 teams gain 30 points which is a great outcome albeit the 4ths had a concession. Lots of smiling faces around the Clubhouse.
This Saturday my panel appointment is at Holtwhites Trinibis where is the 3rds are also playing. I will try and keep an eye out to see how Milner’s Army are doing
