The Riddler talks about rain, women cricket, his popularity with his son Phil and Blackie's heroics in the middle.

I gave Phil out first ball LBW

My game on Saturday was curtailed by the rain (sorry to mention that word again) and I was back at RCC around 6.30 and found the 2 home games in full swing. I was persuaded to stand for the 2nds and had the opportunity to give Riddleston P out LBW first ball. The advice is not playing a stroke is not a sensible ploy, although discussions at home on Sunday saw Riddleston J (Mrs) not entirely convinced on the merits of the decision on her son. At least that gave Paul the opportunity to carry his bat in a terrific batting display where he was peppered with fast balls n a scnee similar to Brian Close facing the West Indes in the 1970s.

I watched the England womans team win through to the quarter finals of the World Cup on Monday evening and that made me think about the development of the womans game in cricket. Whilst the game is growing it is a long way behind that of football in terms of numbers and activity. I hope Ricky can help that development in the near future.

Saturday sees the Hockey tournament so everyone is away but i hope to see some of you back at the club afterwards to tell me what a wonderful job your umpires did in your game.
