Lesson learned - move on

Rickmansworth played a more experienced and thus far unbeaten Chorleywood U9 team, coached by ex-Rickmansworth legend Anthony Hall on Monday. Chorleywood had racked up big scored in their previous games and so Ricky were fortunate enough to get the chance to bat first.

Stanley and Wilf started well, Wilf in particular hitting, no SMASHING, a very good 11 runs. But the Chorleywood bowling was very good and the fielding absolutely well drilled. 209/1 after the first 4. Reino and Ted then set about putting on a score but were also pegged back by some good throwing and, to be honest, some less than good running between the wickets. Too much hesitation, which the boys are aware of and we will work to put it right. Still we were +15 after those overs, both boys hitting boundaries and now 224/3

Aman and Kian ran better but were hampered by some astonishingly good bowling and both lost their wickets in the last over and before that to register -6 on the runs. 218/6. Eshan and Hamza held it together well, but again the bowling was exceptional and Jasper bowled a maiden to go with the one bowled by Sonny earlier. Net score was plus 1 and we finished on 219/8.

Chorleywood were very disciplined in the field and took their chances on run outs. They did the basics so well and they will go far in the competition.

Although Ricky's bowling was quite accurate we couldnt really hit the high's of Chorleywood. Every batting pair scored 10 or more and wickets for Reino and Kian and Eshan were actually very well taken. In their last game, Chorleywood didn't lose a wicket at all. Jack Hall was very strong and hit a wonderful 6 over mid wicket. Just like his Dad. But even the 15 he scored was a low one, compared to the 45 he scored in a previous game.

So although the result went against Ricky, and we do need to work harder, we didnt make it easy for Chorleywood and I am sure we will bounce back in our next match
