U9: Ricky brushed aside by Bushey
By Paul Blackwell
wickets prove costly again
With a somewhat understrength team, bolstered by some last minute call-ups (very grateful for them too) Ricky batted first against what would prove to be a very strong and well drilled Bushey outfit. Neyan and oliver opened up and fell victim to some great line and length bowling conceeding 6 wickets in their 4 overs. It was carnage and no something easy to recove on as Ricky were -17 after the first 4. Wilf, Joe and Rohan also lost wickets (4) and had only gained 5 runs by the halfway point.
Then a recovery took place with Reino and Kian plundering 25 runs off their set with some lovely hitting and running. This was more like the Ricky of last week. And then Hamza and Daniel did well to add a further 3 runs, but also lost a couple of wickets. The boys who have been getting coaching from Taz, and the team, all season definitely showed what was needed as they effectively only lost 1 wicket out of the 11 to fall. Those 50 runs would prove priceless later on.
When Bushey batted, they didnt have it all their own way and Wilf got 2 wickets and so did Daniel Atkins, son of Ricky legend Mike Atkins, getting 2 wickets in a row in his first game for the club. But aside from this the Bushey boys could take little chances as they cruised to their target and beyond.
Some interesting stats:
Ricky scored 272 runs ; Bushey scored 274 runs. So we were just as good with the bat, were it not for wickets to fall
Ricky bowled 9 wides : Bushey bowled 10 wides. Again Ricky did what was required of them. Bushey also bowled 3 no balls, against our zero
So the boys have every game in their hands. It's simply the wickets column that comes back to bite us each time.
Next it is a B team game on Wednesday against Chorleywood and then a home game against Radlett on Monday.
