They say the true quality of a team is when they have to come back from adversity. And this week Rickmansworth 2nd XI have to do exactly that, as they look to recover from losing a game that "Couldn't be lost!". However in any match there are two teams and if Ricky could score 263 then so could Frogmore. As the old Football chant goes "we're gonna score 1 more than you". And they did.
So onto this week,. Ricky face Ware. The last meeting between the pair was a rather one-sided affair with Ware on the way up the Leagues. Ricky bowled out for 50 and Ware knocking it off in 10 overs. However, that was before Ware's fall from grace and even greater fall down the Leagues. The days of ex-County pro's making up the Ware teamsheet are long gone. Last year they finished in 3rd place, above Bushey II, but a good 100 points behind the top 2 teams who ran away with the League. And in the points table their average of over 6 wickets per game when not winning was the best in the League
However they still present a dangerous force to be reckoned with and have clocked up a victory against Radlett already this season. They have also had Stevenage 9 down for the same score as Ricky did, and kept Frogmore down to just 229 - some 35 less than Ricky. So potentially a dangerous team with ball in hand? And that would seem to be borne out by their batting average of just 3.78 per over. Compared to Ricky's average of 4.55 per over.
Ware have won the toss on 3 occasions and chosen to bat second. They clearly prefer to chase a total. And all the figures point to a team that has a decent set of bowlers. They have dismissed every team all out apart from the 9 down against Stevenage. So the keenest battle will be between Rickys top 8 and Ware's bowlers. Let battle commence.
