Potters Bar. One of Hertfordshire's premier clubs. At least you would think so, with 5 teams and a lovely ground to play on. Indeed if you play at Dame Alice Owens School (their 2nd ground) on a good Saturday you can play in front of 250,000 people (as they speed past in their cars !). But this week we welcome them to fortress Ricky. And the pleasure of playing on one of the central wickets as well.
Potters Bar III have had an up and down season so far L-W-L-W-L so maybe they are thinking that it's time for a W. Ricky will be hoping to buck the trend and make it 2 losses in a row for PBCC. Apart from the first week, they have consistently scored runs and the Ware match report talked of 6's raining down on them from the "powerful PB batsmen". They have only won the toss once and chose to bat last week (and subsequently lost). So what does this week hold for them? Well it's the first of the 53/47 games, where a draw is possible, and with their batting they will probably want to chase given the choice. So my betting is that they will bat 2nd if winning the toss. What will Ricky do - well that would be telling !
Last year they got promoted, generally scoring good runs and finished with 11 wins and just 4 losses. This season is proving harder for them , but they have already defeated Frogmore and took Bushey into the final 5 overs. Make no mistake - this is a dangerous team that probably bats as well as any we will face this year. The best we can do is fight fire with fire and try and bat as well as we can. And then leave our extraordinary array of bowling talents to do what they do best. I am calling a close run affair with Ricky just coming out on top. Especially as nobody will want to still be playing at 8pm when the whistle goes to start England's European Football odyssey. A win for Ricky and England will do very nicely indeed.
