Ricky 2nd XI beat Baldock but only just
Nail-bitter at Park Road
A misty drizzle had settled over Ricky and there had been no covers on overnight, so the outfield was quite damp but the pitch was still hard with only a little extra moisture, offering a little something for the bowlers early on perhaps? Captain Kasser eventually decided on batting first after winning the toss.
The openers started well, trying to see out the new ball . When Ricky lost the wicket of Matt with the score on 25, this brought in hero of the day, Bobby. He played well for his eventual 68 whilst at the other end, Kasser and Raz did well to support him. With the score on 73 for the loss of only 2 Ricky were looking to post at least 200, unfortunately a batting collapse put an end to that hopeful figure. Ricky lost 4 wickets for just 10 runs. It was now all up to Bobby, and with a great 20 from Tom (The Tank) Watson, Ricky finally managed to post 144 all out in 41 overs.
After Tea, Ricky got an early breakthrough when Tom took out the stumps with one that kept a bit low. Brett was then in the next few overs able to take another 3 wickets and Baldock were in trouble with 4 down. Raz in next and with his second ball Matt took a great catch at second slip . Harry was also into the attack and after bowling the batsmen out on a no ball, bowled him out again 3 balls later.
Bobby came in to the attack with Ricky needing 3 wickets to win and Baldock's needing 25 to win. In his 3rd over he got 2 wickets in 2 balls. Victory was so close!!
Baldock now needed less than 20 runs to win with 1 wicket remaining. Tom was brought back in to attack the stumps and Bobby from the other end. But the batsmen proved stubborn and after 2 overs without a breakthrough and the lead only down to 10 runs, Captain Kasser brought Raz (the golden arm) Khan back on. On his third delivery, the batsman was bowled, Ricky WIN.....!!
