RCC II defeated Abbots Langley by 2 wickets (30 points)

Rickmansworth climbed to the top of the table, but made hard work of an Abbots team that will undoubtedly get stronger as the season progresses. Wannabee Aussie Callum Cusack (3-17) and Phil Riddleston (2-31) bowled well at the start, and despite Zaf dropping a catch off the very first ball, the score could only trickle along on a tough pitch to 45/4 off 20 overs. Skipper Benn Glazier then turned to spin and collected 3 wickets from 4 balls himself whilst left-armer Zaf Shah also got his first wicket for 2 years. The final score of 111 was not bad for the conditions but should have presented an easy challenge for the Rickmansworth batsmen.

Maz Shah (29) and Sohail Bashir (20) got the score over 50 before both departed, followed by a tumble of wickets which was only halted by Glaziers cultured 17 and a mature 20 from Cusack. Despite some further scares, Ricky finally crawled over the line to reach 112/8. “We can do better than this” commented Glazier post-match “but it’s the first win of the 12 we need for promotion, so we are at least on our way”.
