As an impartial observer from the boundary it is clear to see where this team are going wrong. The batsmen are not staying in for long enough to build a score or have a chance to win. In previous years the younger players have bailed out the team, but these lads are now playing in the 2nds and 3rds. Hanumann would take 5 or 6 wickets to skittle a team, or Ben Soames would stroke a 50. But they are not playing this year. And the application being shown by those at the wicket isn't representative of what we want to achieve as a club.
If one person, one batsman on Saturday had supported Matt and Prasanth and set out to bat 30 overs then the rest could have fallen into place. As it was after an opening stand of 23 , the next 9 batsmen's scores look more like football results on a wet Tuesday : 1,1,0,2,2,2,0,0,1. From 36/1 Ricky 4ths lost 9 wickets for 12 runs. This left the bowlers nothing to bowl at and curtailed their day as well.
If you think this report is harsh, try being the person who gives up 30 minutes of his time to input the scores and averages and then has to write this stuff! On 'A' level results day, the verdict is obvious - not enough UCAS points and it's into clearing for the batsmen this week. With players not getting a game each week it's time for some application and true grit guys. Let's hope for better this coming weekend when the 4ths are playing Saturday and Sunday.
