Rickmansworth lost the toss on a cold and blustery day and were asked to field. Phil and Neil opened the bowling in the knowledge that they were in for long spells given the composition of the team. After a steady start by the openers Neil pick up the first wicket when a full toss was hit to Jason at mid off. Three further wickets fell in quick succession as Bushey’s other opener was LBW also to Neil and number 4 was caught by Matt at slip and number 5 LBW to Phil leaving them 50/4.
The game took its decisive turn as Naik (65) and Riseley (46) combined to put on 100 for the 5th wicket. It was far from a chanceless partnership with various opportunities missed. Barry eventually made the breakthrough when he got one to nip away off the seam and hit the top of Naik’s off stump. Riseley followed shortly afterwards when he was also bowled, this time by Neil returning to the attack from the other end. Shingadia followed when he lobbed a catch up to Barry at short cover. Khan then came to the crease and hit a quick fire 27 before he attempted one shot too many and was caught again by Barry off the bowling of Neil. Fittingly Neil wrapped up the innings when he bowled Johnson to claim 7/51.
The Rickmansworth reply was undone by Khan (4-20) and Sundeep (4-17) as we were reduced to 38/9 before some late resistance by the skipper (15*) and Sean (13). Khan in particular got the ball to swing and bowled all of his 4 victims. On his debut Jason (10) looked in little trouble until Sundeep got one to move off the seam. The only other player to make double figures was Matt with 10.
It was a disappointing batting performance after a tireless bowling performance from Neil and Phil in particular.
MOM: Neil for his 7/51
