Rusty Ricky just a wicket away from possible win

After very competitive games between the teams last year, Ricky hosted Chorleywood hoping for a good game. And that was what we got.

Batting first, the Ricky batting was a little ring rusty until Rian and Ollie put on 28 for the 3rd wicket, both scoring 10. However Ricky were by then just 45.4 and needing a big push in the last 7 overs. This was provided by our big hitters Sam and Henry who hit 7 boundaries between them in an unbroken partnership of 45 that saw Ricky reach a respectable 90/5. A quicker start and maybe 110 would have been more appropriate but maybe we hoped it was enough.

Very pleasingly the opening bowlers for Ricky were right on target with 4 wickets falling in the first 5 overs for just 20 runs. Anthony and Manhar were at the wicket and Ricky just needed one more breakthrough to get amongst the tailenders. However it wasnt to be and Anthony showed his class with 30 and Manhar (27) as they took the team to 74/4 before Anthony had to retire. Jonny and Manhar then ran well to go past the Ricky score with 10 balls remaining.

If only Ricky could have grabbed 10 more runs or one more wicket the result may have been different. But it was another close game and the highlight, for me at least, was a great overhead catch by Henry in cold conditions that many adults would have perhaps shied away from.

Ricky 13 points ; Chorleywood 30
