Ricky 1st XI win by 14 runs

We finally had the sun back for a lovely day of cricket or at least we hoped, the team entered their first of playing cricket while fasting ( well most of them) so would be a real test of character under the conditions. Maz won the toss and decided that he would like to have a bat on a lovely looking Ricky deck and a strong batting line up that needed to be tested...

What followed was not exactly according to the plan! Ricky lost their first wicket in the second over to the lively Eddie Tse, Hailey top edging to gully. This signalled a procession as we lost Taz, Maz and Adeel inside 9 overs with the score reading 13-4!! Waqas hit a couple of boundary's to try and get us back in the game but was again taken by Eddie Tse! who now had 5 wickets in 5 overs and must have thought cricket is a easy game.

This brought to the crease two young brothers aged 15 and 17 Toqeer and Tahir named in the team as TNT for their all round explosive cricket ability but look at the scoreboard that read 19-5 could two youngsters bat beyond their years? they certainly could! both Tahir and Toqeer showed why they are rated so highly by effortless scoring runs and hitting the ball to and over the boundary. Tahir at the tender age of 15 looked like a guy that had been playing cricket for 30 years! Toqeer showing that he was just as talented with the bat as he is with the ball.

They put on a huge partnership of 105 runs that got ricky well and truly back in the game! Tahir finishing on an excellent 53 and Toqeer on 60, even the oppo were fully of admiration for both youngsters. Majid joined Toqeer and hit some big shots to take teh score to 164 and threatening 200+ but we bowled out for 178 and the team felt that we had enough runs for a win.

Majid and the impressive Toqeer opened the bowling, we thought we would put the pressure on early and keep it tight but the oppo had other plans and attacked the dependable Majid hitting him for very rare boundaries early on, clear the OC players sent out to try and finish the game as quickly as possible but the young Toqeer was steaming in and working up real pace with the keeper taking balls above his head! OC kept attacking and hitting the ball to the fence on a regular basis, the bowlers were rotated with brett the hit man coming on and young Tahir but this made no difference! OC had reached 119 of 15 overs with teh fall of two wickets so were looking to cruise to a win!

the skipper turned to the ripper dipper Zaf Shah who turned teh game upside down as he usually does by ripping teh ball and making life hard for batsmen. The set batsman Jamie Whybrow was timing the pants of the ball!! hitting it to all parts, he gave a caught behind chance but the keeper grassed it, was that our chance gone? no!

Zaf got him two balls later and this changed the game as OC went from 121-3 to 146-6 thanks to zaf taking 3 wickets and a run out finishing with 3-26. Toqeer came back on with majid and they both bulldozed through the lower middle order reducing OC to 164-9 which turned into 164-10 when Majid bowled the last batsman. Majid bowled with great skill in his second spell and showed his experience when it mattered finishing with 3-38 and young Toqeer finished on 3-38

Captains thoughts " We knew we had a strong batting line up but we never thought we would be reduced to 19-5 , it was refreshing and amazing to see two youngsters show character and fight when we needed them the most. The team also showed great fight in the field when under severe examination, its a real pleasure to lead this team as the bowling is as strong as the batting. I believe in this team and know they can show a lot more yet, i am sure their will be real fireworks in the coming games."
