Rohan stars with bat and ball

A hot day beckoned and Raz lost the toss (even after a re-toss) and Hatch End put us in. Always a bogey team for us, the last time we played them we were bowled out cheaply so the instructions were to bat the full 50.

Paul and Kasser opened and looked comfortable enough before Kasser went back to a good length ball and nicked it to the keeper. In came Lekshay, but he couldnt quite get his timing going and eventually got bowled having one heave too many. Rishi was also undone to a nibble outside off stump and after 20 overs, Ricky were on 42/3 with Paul still at the crease. The 22nd over went for 11 and Ricky were now off and running and looking to accelerate, however Raz jumped back from bouncer and only succeeded in playing it onto his stumps for 1. And then Waheed (3) played on and Ronesh was bowled between his legs. 25 overs gone and Ricky were just 62/6. However Rohan was in next and Paul held an end whilst Rohan played some lovely shots to the boundary. Some quick running also worked and the score was 124 when Paul was finally caught by a diving Hatch End skipper in the covers. 10 overs remained and Kammy kept Rohan company as Rohan went to 50. Kammy skied one for 11, but Naeem then stayed with Rohan and after he was dismissed so did Brett, before Rohan was bowled for an excellent 65.

Ricky had scored 177 which was a good score on a ground where the ball was not always flying to the boundary.

Now Ricky just had to bowl straight and field as well as Hatch End. Brett opened the bowling and Rohan at the other end. Rohan got one opening bat caught well in the covers by the safe hands of Lekshay, whilst the other opening bat was run out 2 overs later by a smart throw by Brett. Brett then got no3 LBW on the back foot before Raz turned to spin. Before this Waheed took a smart catch in the gully to get no4 out for a duck. This paid dividends as Ronesh bowled tightly and picked up 3 wickets, all bowled, including a wicket with his first ball. A slogger came in and hit Ronesh away for some boundaries, but Waheed was now bowling and he got his man middle stump. However the Captain, Andy, was proving as obdurate as ever and very hard to get through his defence.

Naeem wasn't bowling so well, but he found an extra yard of pace and bowled from wide of the crease and hit Andy's off peg. 9 wickets down and Brett came back to bowl the final batsman and finish with extraordinary figures of 6-5-4-2.

A good game all round, enhanced by excellent ground fielding by Ricky and a collaborative team effort. Top batting by Paul and Rohan set up the score to defend. Next week Ricky travel to Botany Bay to play a team who last year were in the Premiership! This will surely be a tough task for the green and gold.
