Ricky consign Chorleywood to defeat in U14

After the U10 team had beaten Chorleywood earlier in the day, it was the turn of the U14’s in the afternoon to take on our closest rivals. In the past few years, Rickmansworth Colts have certainly turned the tables on Chorleywood youngsters, winning more than losing, and once again this was a chance to prove that Ricky has got an outstanding crop of young players coming through.

After a wayward first over, with Harvey conceding 2 boundaries due to some fielding mistakes, the Ricky bowler settled down to a line and length with Tahir bowling out his first victim in the 4th over. However on a hard track with a fast outfield the runs flowed and Chorleywood scored at 7 an over. At this rate Ricky would be looking at 140, so it was greatly appreciated when Iwan (4-0-18-1) and Jai (3-0-15-0) put the brakes on in the middle overs. Iwan got a good bowled, whilst Tahir pulled off an outrageous run out by flicking the ball behind him to run out the non-striker. The rate had slowed and the middle 10 overs went for just 45 runs. Harvey and Tahir then returned to turn the screw and to concede just 10 boundaries in 20 overs was down to decent fielding and tight bowling. Special mention to Kinushan for stepping in behind the stumps.

Ricky’s reply started with a disaster as Joe Wotherspoon was bowled 2nd ball. However this brought in Tahir, whose first scoring shot was a 6 which bounced once and into the road. He then proceeded to thrash the ball to the boundary putting on 54 with Rahim before he was bowled by a good Yorker for 31. Tahir should have gone on to make a bigger score. Harvey then strode to the wicket and once again he was the safe bet for the team alternating clever singles with crashing boundaries all around the ground. Rahim went on his way steadily and it wasn’t long before Harvey had to retire on a well-constructed 42*in a partnership of 52 with Rahim. Harvey hit 9 boundaries, whilst Tahir 5. Rahim then smashed further runs to take him to 21* and Eesa 2* and a win by 8 wickets with 35 balls to spare. Ricky U14’s remain unbeaten in the South Herts division.
