3. March Diary

The new covers have been built and cleaned, they just need a new coat of paint and they will be ready to go.

March is the time to start rolling the squares. We begin with just the weight of the mowers, then gradually get heavier as time moves on. By mid month we have got to the roller, which we ballast up with water later to get to the optimum weight.

We roll in a union jack pattern across both squares so that we compress from all angles to get maximum compaction.
I have given the squares a low nitrogen feed to give growth a boost and aid the green-up process.

The outfield has been attacked by badgers this spring. They are after worms and grubs that live below the turf.

If you have been to the club then you will have seen the considerable damage caused. We will have to re-turf in some areas.

At this point there is snow in the air outside my window, and the wind chill is at -7, its 5 weeks until the first cricket matches!!! Please warm up!!
