At a prestigious awards ceremony held on Monday at the Home of Cricket, Lords, our very own Andrew Dalgliesh (known to everyone as Dougy) received an award for his outstanding contribution in attempting to resolve issues caused by climate change.
Everyone knows that RCC has been beset by problems with flooding over the last 2 years and Doug set out on his own mission to bring some relief to the club and make the improvements necessary. He engaged with District and Parish Councils to secure funding and also spoke to the Environment Agency and other flooding experts, as well as external donors, to raise awareness of climate change on Cricket and the need for our club to put in place processes and facilities that will alleviate the problems we have faced in those last 2 years.
This included a campaign to local people via Facebook and Instagram to highlight the issue and get them supportive of our grant requests. Doug has faced many closed doors but has always found a way to get them opened a little. He has stood and presented to Three Rivers Council and his work has led to the possibility of almost £140,000 in funding being obtained to support our efforts in making cricket at Rickmansworth sustainable for the next 50 years.
We should all be proud of the things Doug has achieved so far, and this award by Hertfordshire Cricket, is testament to his endeavours and never-give-in attitude. One thing is a given - every club needs people like him and we are lucky to have the original boss.
