After last week string of successful results with five big wins out of five it was just a case for most of the teams this week about accumulating points to secure their place in the divisions. The only exception was the first team who had to win in order to give themselves a chance going into the last game of the season.
The 5ths found themselves struggling against a strengthened Potten End who were able to rack up 254 for seven. In amongst the chaos, Ronesh bowled 8 overs for just 18 runs whilst the rest of the bowlers travelled like Judith Chalmers (ask Rob or Ken !). The Rickmansworth reply never got underway way as the rain fell at the interval to finish the game.
The 4th 11 game was also affected by rain as Luton town and Indians scored 231 for Six which was the highest score on the top pitch for two years, once again underlining the excellent work the grounds people have put in this year. With the drizzle coming down, Rickmansworth gave some of the younger players a chance to have a knock before the game was called off. Results elsewhere meant that the 4th i1 were safe in division 10W much to Manny's delight in the bar afterwards. His purse in his man bag still didnt see the light of day though.
The 3rd 11 needed five points in the game against Harpenden but were made to struggle as the second wicket of Harpenden only fell in the 30th over. At this stage they were 140 for two. A couple of good catches in the deep by Naresh were points number four and five and relegation was avoided. This made the chase quite spicy and Rickmansworth kept up with the scoring rate until the 30th over but the continuous loss of wickets meant we finished 35 runs short. Top scorers were Manan and Lekshay with 28. Good game played in excellent spirit, just like all the others in 2025.
The 2nd team were already safe, but it was still great to see Bobby and Dougie put on 104 for the third wicket with Bobby contributing 73 off just 49 balls. The only other contributor down the order was Waheed with 17 but with 46 extras Rickmansworth were able to finish on 174. Sawbridgeworth were very confident as they were pushing for promotion, but their batsman didn’t ever get going against the exceptional bowling of Angus and Rohan. This was probably Rick's best bowling attack of the year and Rohan took 3-33 and Angus 4 for 25. Shiv himself weighed in with 2 for 12 and Rickmansworth only bowled seven wides as Sawbridgeworth were restricted to 126 all out. Even the rain couldn’t save them. Though they still brought Ricky a jug of ale afterwards to recompense for some hurty words.
The hardest task was left to Rickmansworth 1st 11 who simply had to win and win quickly because of the impending rain. Flitwick were bowled over literally by a combination of Raunak three for 30 (where has he been all season!) and Billy May five for 13 in 7 overs. Quite an extraordinary bowling performance by the stand-in skipper and finally a top drawer effort by Ricky 1sts. Aman also took two valuable wickets, as he has done all season, to finish the Flitwick innings after just 33 overs for 110.
Knowing there was rain in the air, Billy went for the jugular after losing Pradeep on 21 and Yusuf on 7. Out strode Jaspreet and Mobeen who hit 4 maximums and seven boundaries both with a strike rate of over 160. As a result Rickmansworth scored 111 in just 14.1 overs (85 balls) to gain a comprehensive victory. Its alleged some Flitwick players are still in the stream looking for one of Mobeen's biggest hits. A win against Watford Town on Saturday now gives them every chance for survival.
Well done to the 4 Ricky teams who have finished mid table and it’s all eyes on the first 11 this Saturday. Lets hope we can all celebrate long into the night.
