Once again, Rickmansworth CC show real improvement intent with an amazing award from Three Rivers District Council who have awarded the Cricket Club £167,200 to enable the club to improve drainage on both grounds, provide new changing facilities, improve disabled access as well as purchase new cricket nets.
Back 2 years ago the club was under-water and it was only through a huge and costly clean-up operation that we managed to get any Cricket on at all. Club members and parents did an amazing job. But we couldnt face that again. Thanks to the drainage money we can make sure that extreme weather events do not affect us so badly again.
It is worth noting that Croxley Parish Council also contributed to helping us with consultancy fees and infrastructure planning, whilst Batchworth Town Council, back in July, dug deep and also assisted the club with a wonderful grant towards the same items as TRDC. There is a new saying 'it takes a village' - well in this case it has taken a whole Town, District and Parish !!!
The Cricket nets are a pair of full-length, artificial surfaces with cages around them that will mean we can bring more youngsters to the ground at the same time as well as having all 5 senior teams practice properly in sync. We can have a proper club net night.
The changing facilities are for the top-pitch where we can accommodate more players and make that area a proper Cricket hub and facility.
All the members of the committee have worked tirelessly on this, led by the indomitable Dougie Dalgleish and the new facilities will help to make the Park Road ground fit for the highest level of cricket possible as well as be a legacy for thousands of youngsters to better themselves at Cricket. We owe the Committee a great debt of gratitude and we are lucky to have such a loyal, hard-working and inspirational team at the helm. There is more to come...
In other news, the drainage work further down-stream in St Joan of Arc School will start soon, again funded by TRDC. The RCC committee talk to the Council on a weekly basis to ensure we get what we want out of this.
The grounds themselves remain in a good shape despite the often heavy showers. They are cut on a regular basis over the winter whilst the kids football teams from Croxley use them. This time of year is for nurture whilst nature takes its course. We have purchased an additional ride-on outfield mower which will start to get used in March. Discussions are ongoing with an exciting new grounds team and we hope to make announcements on that soon.
Indoor nets for kids have been a huge success for the last 3 months, led by Aman, Billy and Wynand, with great contributions from other clubs members like Giles, Manan, Neil R and Mark R as well as some of the 15/16 year olds like Izzy, Max and Nikhil.
We start a new set in January and there are still places available for kids from 5 to 14 on Mondays and Wednesdays (see separate post on this website). FRIDAY 16th JANUARY is the date for all your diaries as that is when we start indoor nets for Adults as well as boys aged 14 upwards. We will post out about that shortly.
In summary there is a HUGE amount going on and as a member at RCC you are in the right place to really take advantage of what will be an exciting 2026. We still need new 1st team players and people willing to join the committee and become part of our success. You know who to contact, but if you are new and reading this then send an email to info@rickmansworthcc.co.uk .
