U10's do the club proud at the Whitehead Cup

Andrew Dalgliesh13 May - 14:39

A great showing from the youngsters - real promise being shown!

Rickmansworth U10's performed fantastically at the 12 team Whitehead Cup held at Tring Park with both teams reaching the semi finals.

The competition which included some of the stronger local teams including Harpenden, Berkhamsted, St Albans and Shenley Village was a great benchmark for the U10 group run by Matt & Christian and the lads didn’t disappoint, showing what a talented bunch they are.

The Blue Team were pitched in a tough group of Tring Park and St Albans but impressively topped their group with two close victories, the first of which was a thrilling last ball victory against St Albans where Charlie and Leo batted with considerable calm to score 6 runs off the last over. Another close game against Tring Park saw the Blues triumph by 5 runs to set up a semi-final with Leverstock Green. The semi didn’t go to plan and the Blues were comfortably beaten with LG scoring 254, we managed 223 in reply against a highly charged opposition!

The Green's Group included Harpenden and Hemel and won their group with ease. A fine first batting display saw the boys hit 276 with Reevan and Druv adding an impressive 37 runs from their two overs. A tight batting and fielding display saw the Greens win by 51 runs with Arlo taking two wickets in his over. The next game vs Hemel was equally one sided with Rickmansworth restricting Hemel to 199 for 6 wickets before amassing 262 in response. Like the Blues, the Greens found the semi-final opposition a much harder nut to crack and our total of 227 never looked like being quite enough to defend.

The 3rd vs 4th play off between the two Rickmansworth Teams ended with the Blues coming out on top. The pivotal moment was when young Aahan from the U9s was accidentally hit by a no ball, before regaining his composure to smash 17 off one over – well done young man.

On the batting side, Aahan topped the stats with a net score of 31, followed by Leo and William on 24 – a special note to Joe who was the only of our players to not lose his wicket across the tournament, scoring 19 runs in the process.

On the bowling side, Savir and Leo both bowled well each taking 4 wickets for the Blues. Josh and Christopher for the Greens were both impressive not just with their wickets (2 and 3 respectively) but also hardly giving a run away all day and Christopher also managed a wicket maiden, the only maiden we saw all day.

All the boys conducted themselves brilliantly and contributed to an excellent days cricket and entertainment.
