local rivals put to the sword

On the warmest evening of the season so far, Ricky U9's commenced their league campaign against perennial rivals Chorleywood. With only 7 players, 2 of whom had not played a match before, and the Chorleywood boys resplendent in their white kit and training for 30 minutes before the game, things looked ominous.

Aman and Joseph bowled first and well, and kept the first pair to 20 runs. Ossie and Rakshith then did even better with Ozzie grabbing a wicket. Chorleywood 32/1 at the halfway stage and looking to push on. However the Ricky 7 fielded well and the Chorleywood boys didnt take as many of the runs on offer. The next bowling pair were Daniel and Henryk and they both took a wicket to really slow down Chorleywood, whilst Reino and Ossie finished the innings again with good results, Reino taking 2 wickets in an over to really slow the advance.

Especially pleasing was the 4 wides and 2 no balls - I don't think I have ever seen such a tight bowling performance at this age group.

Ricky needed to bat steadily to start with, but this isnt the Ricky way! Aman and Henry hit the ball hard and ran like demons. Aman got 8 and Henryk 4 and with extras made 37 for the first 4 overs. And this with losing 1 wicket. Ricky then only lost one more wicket, in rattling up 74 runs. Extras was 33 of these but every boy scored a run with Reino getting 8 in his 2 innings and Joseph also getting 4.

Congratulations to Henryk on his first bat for Rickmansworth. Part of the team now! and also to Ozzie who is Year 2 but batted and bowled superbly. Daniel bowled very good lines as well.

So it's Played One, Won 1 and onto the next game.
