in opening game of the season

On a great looking deck and in brilliant sunshine, Rickmansworth started off very well against the Northwood Town opening attack. New player Rahul and veteran Stefan looked comfortable and ran well to put 50 on the board in quick time. However the loss of Stefan for 17, LBW, sparked a crisis amongst the young middle order. It seemed that too much IPL and 20:20 cricket had gone to their heads as unecessary forcing shots led to the downfall of Yash, Robin and Fred, and Asim too!

League Cricket is about occupation and building an innings. Lessons to be learned as 5 wickets feel and the score had barely moved on.

Adeel and debutant Gaurav set about restoring pride, and the score exceeded 100 before the fall of another wicket. But sadly this too brought about further craziness as the next 3 batters couldnt manage a run betweeen them. This kind of batting is relegation form and it left the bowlers little to work with.

Luckily for Ricky, we did have some decent bowlers to make amends and after the new ball had started to lose it's firmness, the ball began to move. from 35/0, Northwood started to lose wickets regularly, with Smithy taking 2 in one over, and Joe Monk taking tow as well. Only 3 batsmen made double-figures and despite the efforts of Yash and Adeel who took 2 wickets each, the last pair took the score from 95/9 to 110 and a victory by the smallest of margins.

All reports say that if Ricky had scored another 20 runs then the game was ours. So knuckle down next week boys and make the most of these practice games.
