Back on the 29th April, Ricky played their first friendly games of the season with both the 1st and 3rd team losing to Watford Town. Fast Forward 5 months and both these teams were promoted and it was time to celebrate with a couple of friendly games.
A mixed Ricky team took on a youthful West Herts team, who started well putting on 40 for the first wicket and were 106/2 after 25 overs. It took the introduction of Harvey to start the wickets flowing and after he moved to bowl spin, which was turning a mile, he finished with 4-12 in 8 overs. His best of the season. Jaiden Patel excelled for WHCC with 71 out of their total of 186 in 40 overs. The other 4 wickets were taken by Matt and Josh Iveson to make it a Father and Son day.
After both opening batters had gone for Ricky, Owen and Alec put on 74 runs before Alec misjudged a straight ball when he was set for his first club 50. A tumble of wickets saw Ricky stumble on 119/6 before Majid entered the fray. The next over went for 27 as Maj flayed the youngster to all parts. Owen was finally caught and bowled for his best score of the season (57), and indeed for Ricky, but Saffie went on to score 26, mostly in boundaries to finish the game for the home side. A win to complete an amazing season where an astonishing 71% of all games played resulted in a Ricky win. Who would have suspected that when the 1sts and 3rds were falling to defeat back in April. !
