2nd team stun title rivals in astonishing comeback

Whilst other games were going on, news was filtering through of a disaster at Park Road for the 2nd XI. 3rd before the match started, playing unbeaten Olf Finchlieans, Ricky's new look batting order was quickly reduced to tatters. 16/1 became 45/7 as a the OFCC bowlers bowled an excellent line and length on what had looked like a plum batting track.

Ali, Danny, Waheed, Matt and Safraz scored 6 runs between them and whilst Stefan (11) and Owen (9) contributed a little, it was only Bobby who resisted the onslaught. Finally in Waqqas he found a willing partner and they both combined well (work-mates and team-mates) to take the score to 85. A partnership of 40 that was so valuable. Rizzy also hung around and helped the team to 105 all out with Bobby also gone for a 28 that, in the context of the game, seemed like a 50.

Those at other games could only stare at phones and hope a miracle could happen.

It has been said before, but it's worth repeating that this 2nd XI don't know when they are beaten and they set out their stall early with Smithy and Saffie opening the bowling. And sure enough, the OFCC players capitulated one by one. After 12 overs they had plenty of runs, but had lost 3 wickets. And then Waheed came on and also took wickets with line and length bowling. What an asset he has been this season with bat and ball. Only the middle three batters made double figures and OFCC could only make 75 in reply. 4 wickets for Saffie (despite Owen throwing him to the ground in a chase for a catch), 3 for John and 2 for Waheed.

Never Say Die could the motto of this team. And, in my opinion, they have not reached top gear yet. Even more to come.
