Under dark skies, RCC declare for 200 and win a last over thriller against St Albans.

On a day with heavy rain predicted, St. Albans lost the toss and we elected to bat. Captain Glazier set the early tone taking 10 off the first over, however this was not to continue as Ric Firth tried to follow suit, swishing at one ball, hitting the next for 4 and then was out the following ball - at 30/3 there was work to be done. Enter Cox and chairman Raine who set about reviving the innings. The latter taking the sheet anchor role whilst the former flaying the opposition to all corners. With the rain looming, the skipper informed the batsman of a potential early declaration and straight after, Raine was out. Newcomer Justin Cullen made a quick 36 and then Cox was out for a well made 92 - his first century still eluding him. RCC finishing with 200/9 dec., giving St. Albans 51 overs to chase the total.

From the start of the St. Albans innings, drizzle fell making it difficult for the bowlers to do much at all with the ball. Curly Robinson bowled too well without any luck and Andy Milner started the process taking his first of 4 wickets for the day. The rain continued, yet was never enough to come off the ground, and the innings progressed, St. Albans were still in the game, keeping the required run rate around 5 an over. Glazier took the ball and tried to get some turn with the piece of soap and managed to snare a wicket off his first ball and was able to dry up the runs for a while, but a quick 50 from the St. Albans number 6 kept things alive before Rishi Patel took a vital catch to end his innings - the ball coming down from the clouds and ever so slightly swinging the momentum back towards RCC.

In fading light, St. Albans needed 20 off the final 4 overs, with two wickets in hand and then 5 off the last, with just one wicket in the bag before Robinson grabbed his 2nd (and very overdue) wicket of the day, hitting the base of the stumps and bringing the innings to an end.

RCC winning by 4 runs with 4 balls to spare. An epic day of cricket in terrible conditions.
