Just like the 2nd team, Ricky 3rd came up against a one-man batting team in West Herts. The team from Watford have been busy on the recruitment side since the middle of last season and the culmination of this was on view with Vikas Chandramoulisekar rescueing the team with a wonderful 121.
Earlier, in picturesque settings, Gaurav won the toss and put West Herts in to bat. The decision initially paid dividends, with tight bowling from Shiv and Syam and West Herts were quickly 54 for 4 in 15 overs. Shiv grabbed two and Syam and Gee took one each. The game was there for the taking, but in strode Vikas. 25 overs later he had ammassed 121 runs of his own, playing fantastically all over the ground and single handedly helping West Herts reach a competitive score of 226 to defend. The bowling was decent from from Callum, Hanuman, Lekshay & Gaurav at the other batsmen, but there was no checking Vikas in a brilliant display of batting.
Harish & Gaurav opened the batting but Harish edged one to the keeper followed by Lekshay getting bowled by Vikas. Gaurav was caught behind and Owen and Raz looked good initially but then both fell trying to up the scoring rate, which was climbing. Sohail then started onslaught and looked back in his old form and scored brilliant 39 and with Syam and Shiv contributing towards the end, RCC were able to reach a decent, points gathering 169-9 in reply, in 40 overs.
Even in the loss, RCC got 14 points out of the match and with lots of positives including the all round efforts of Syam & Shiv and the return of form of Sohail. It was not a beating ,except by one man, and without his contribution, Ricky would have won the game as WHCC would not have posted 100. He will be the man to get out in the return fixture, for sure.
