Once again it was Rickmansworth's youth policy to the fore, as Ricky took on Northwood 3rds, a team 3 divisions above them in the table. After losing Trigger after 12 overs for a slow but cautious 3, Scott Jackson and John Clifford rebuilt until John departed for 29. Scott continued though and was just 2 runs short of a maiden 50 for the club when he got out on 48. This was easily Scott's highest score for Ricky and he certainly deserved the half-century. An amazing feat for a young man of just 16. When he got out, 14 year old Alex Lee took up the cudgel and hit 21 of his own, as Ricky posted a decent 144 all out.
More records then fell as Alex Lee (14yrs) and Jack Lee (16yrs) became the first brothers to open the bowling for any Ricky side since Tim and Andy Molloy at least 20 years ago, and maybe more. And certainly they were the youngest to do so in living memory. Alex took two wickets and Scott Jackson one, as once again the youngsters at Ricky took the majority of wickets in a match this season. By contrast 72 year old Tony MacDonald Barker also took a wicket to prove that age is no barrier to playing at Rickmansworth.
Despite losing by 5 wickets, the game was played in a great spirit and with youngsters taking wickets and scoring runs elsewhere in the teams on Saturday it was certainly a celebration of the new youth policy on display at the club.
