Bushey washed away

4th Team – Away to Bushey

The 4s endured an ultimately frustrating day away to Bushey. With rain forecast and an interesting looking pitch the skipper had no hesitation in inserting the home team. Some extremely tight bowling from Jack and Rushil restricted the scoring options and the score advanced with the occasionally extra. Jack was very unlucky to see two LBW decisions turned down. After 10 overs Neil and Amieya joined the attack and both openers gifted their wickets to Amieya with Jinesh and Jon taking good catches. The third wicket fell to a comedy run out with both batsmen at the bowler’s end and the skipper having time to field a wayward throw from Rushil and remove the bails.

The match moved on at pace with the introduction of Prasanth who bowled an inspired spell of 8 overs 5 for 15. Prasanth’s first three of victims fell to catches behind the wicket. The first was an excellent grab by Jaimin at slip followed by a routine take by the skipper and then a sharp catch at full stretch. The skipper sensed the opportunity to bowl Bushey out cheaply and bought Jack back into the attack. Jack was rewarded when a thick edge was well caught by Jinesh in the gulley. Prasanth then picked up his final two victims comprehensively bowling both batsmen. The final wicket fell to Rushil as the number 11 played all around a straight half volley which cannoned into middle stump.

Debutant Jinesh opened with Jaimin in pursuit of 88 to win. In an effort to get on with things Jaimin looked to hit the ball back past the bowler and offered a sharp return catch to the bowler which was well taken. Amieya strode to the wicket and looked to be positive whilst Jinesh was more selective with his strokes. The highlight was Amieya’s shot for 6 in his 19 not out. The pair moved the score along to 37/1 with little fuss at which point the players were forced from the field by heavy rain. The heavy rains relented but with fine drizzle in the air Bushey were unwilling to return to the field and the match ended in a rain affected draw.

Undoubtedly this was a game that the 4ths would have won had the weather not intervened. On the positive side it was a much improved performance in the field with almost all the chances that went to hand taken including four sharp chances. Hopefully the confidence from this improved display will see the 4s record their first win of the season on Saturday at home to Radlett.
