Ricky 4ths lose in tight finish to West Herts

Put into bat, Ricky struggled early on against some very tight slow bowling from Nicholls and Mills. Prasanth top scored with 38 but had scant support from those around himuntil dubutant George Glynn came in and cracked a quick-fire 15 to take the score to 81/3. After these tow departed though it was left to skipper Ken Brown to hold the ship together with a stylish 22 not out. But the wickets kept tumbling and poor old Joe Monk was devastated to get out bowled off his pads to leave Ken high and dry and the team score on 134. Whether the missing last 3 overs would make a difference only the 2nd innings would discover.

In the meantime, the 2nd XI were busy demolishing their opposition and had completed their game just around the tea interval.

Hanumann and Joe bowled well in tandem, however Jaffa in the WHCC team pounced on anything short and they looked to be racing away with the game. A great steepling caught and bowled by Joe brought the context back to life, as did a super throw from the 18 year old to dismiss the other opening bat for 22. After drinks it was time to introduce Harvey and he reined in the scoring with a nice combination of leg and off breaks with the odd slider, the latter of which put paid to Vip for 4. When Harvey then turned a ball in between the skippers bat and pad, suddenly Ricky had the chance of victory with 12 needed and 3 wickets to go. However the remaining batsmen edged their way to safety and eventually West Herts claimed the points with a couple of overs to go.

A great game played in wonderful spirit and all over by 10 to 6. Well played all.
