In 2013, the 4th XI won 2 games. In 2014, after just 2 weekends, the 4th team have won the same number. And better still, sit atop the Division 11 Table.
On a warm day, Richard Harwood called right and decided to have a bat. The opening bowlers were fairly canny and stuck to their lines, with just the occasional full toss to put away. Danny fell cheaply to a flick off his legs, and then Gavin, after some lusty blows, holed out off the toe to mid on. 35/2. Paul and Sam then dug in and made it to drinks on 70/2. The tempo changed after drinks, with Paul accelerating to his half-century before feathering one to the keeper. Sam followed soon afterwards and at 106/4 it looked like Ricky might collapse for an under par score. However firstly Emery with 15 got us to 135, before Ronesh (54*) and James Bagley (3) put the game out of reach. Rumpole even had the rare pleasure of declaring after 45 overs. Smiles all round.
After a fulsome tea was consumed, Brendan was on fire. He removed the opener second ball, and then the OACC team kept getting themselves out. A handful of chips into the field were followed by a screamer which Sam held onto to remove the dangerous Hamzah. Brendan's line was immaculate and by the time Rushil had finished his spell, OACC were 8 down for 40. Ronesh then came on and tidied up, after the number 11 had bludgeoned a few boundaries, to take them to 71 all out.
There will be tougher days to come, but for now the 4th team can enjoy that heady feeling of being top of the League.
