Chorleywood hot, Ricky cold

It's fair to say that it is fairly rare to arrive for a Colts game in snow, but that was the herald that awaited the U10 team on Tuesday. Nevertheless the game must go on, and luckily by the time the Chorleywood team arrived, the sun was shining. But it was still bitterly cold.

Chorleywood batted first as not all their team had arrived. Freddie and Arno bowled well in tandem, both hitting the deck hard and restricting Chorleywood to just 14. Only one wide each as well. Then Alex and Aled took up the game, with Aled getting 2 wickets in his first over. Chorleywood were pegged back to just +18 runs. Toby and Ollie also bowled well with Ollie also getting a wicket and then Lucas and Jaspar both bowled tightly, Jaspar not bowling a wide in his first 8 balls and Lucas doing the same. However some lusty hitting by Chorleywood saw them up to 68 for the loss of just 3 wickets.

Aled Johnson was the best bowler with figures of 2-3 in his two overs.

Batting wise the going was harder for Ricky as Alex Leith bowled very quickly and Jaspar and Alec were unable to find the gaps. Toby and Aled put on 9 runs for the second partnership. Which was our highest of the match. Ollie hit some lovely shots towards the end, but was unlucky to find the fielders each time, and Arno and Freddie batted well, with Freddie hitting our teams only boundary. Lucas also scored his first run for the club.

Freddie was our best batsman with 6 runs.

With three U9 players in the U10 line-up, and 3 boys who had never played in a match before, the general consensus was that the boys had stuck gamely to their task against more experienced opposition. Ricky will come back stronger in matches to come.
