Kings Langley fall to Ricky

Fresh from a painful defeat against Chorleywood, the Ricky U10 faced a team they had not played before in Kings Langley. This would be a fresh challenge. We welcomed back Oliver Atkins and also had James Stevens Jennings play in his first League game for the club.
Ricky were put into bat and Josh (8) and Toby (5) hit some good blows and ran hard between the wickets to total 18 for the first partnership. However in losing 3 wickets we were just +3 after their 4 exciting overs. Jaspar and Arno went a few better in scoring 26 runs and only losing their wickets once each. Jaspar got 7 and Arno 5. Lucas and Oliver were a little more circumspect, hwoever they scored 3 and 4 each and only lost their wickets once each. And so on came our final pair. Ricky were on +16 and we needed a real boost. And boy did we get it! Alec played the steady role of pushing the ball around and running hard whilst James clubbed the ball around, including one lovely boundary 4. Alec (4) and James (12) successfully catapulted the team to 240, given the 200 runs you start with. Would it be enough? We were about to find out.

Arno and Jaspar opened the bowling with Arno going for just 5 runs off his 2 overs. Jaspar took a great catch off his own bowling however it was deemed a no ball. After those 4 overs Kings Langley were already on +20 and halfway to their target. The second bowlers needed to be on form…and they were. Lucas bowled 2 overs for 6 runs whilst Oliver took 1 wicket for 3 in his two overs. Amazing performance and Kings were just 4 runs further on after the 8th over. Now it was Alec and James’ turn. James’ first over went for 3 runs and James’ went for 2 runs. Kings were just 11 runs from victory. And then in one amazing over the game turned on it’s head. A catch in the deep by Jaspar, and run out and then a clean-bowled, 3 wickets in 4 balls, and James had figures of 2-5 and Kings Langley were reeling on 219 after 12 overs. 21 needed off 4 balls, and Josh and Toby had to bowl well. And bang, Josh got a wicket with his 3rd ball, and Toby got one with his first ball. And then Josh got another wicket, for 2-10. Toby’s 1-12 enabled Ricky keep KL to 226/6 and a famous victory.
