A tale of two halves

In football you sometimes get a game of two halves. Where one team is on top for half the game and then the other team comes back. In this game, the Ricky innings was an innings of two halves. The first 15 overs progressing serenely as Paul (42) and Harish (45) put on 98 for no loss at quicker than a run a ball. The Paul suffered a blow to the face, trying to pull a short ball and limped from the pitch. The next 15 overs saw Ricky score just 37 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. The initial momentum was lost and from a big total perspective, Ricky were finished.

Tom scored 10 and Viren 8 not out, but otherwise it was a series of injudicious shots and straight bowling that did for the Ricky batters.

St Albans had a team full of players from their higher teams, all of whom are above our own 3rd team level and their quality showed as they cruised to victory in little over half-way. Ricky's youngsters bowled well but it was men against boys for much of the innings as St Albans put on the kind of score that Ricky were hoping for earlier.

Everyone batted and 7 players got a bowl, so as a good run out the game was perfect. Even if the result was not! We will carry on the 5th XI to keep developing the players for the league games ahead.
