fun in the sun

You can’t beat a close game of cricket played on a sunny day. Which is exactly what RCC enjoyed on Sunday against Goodwill Wanderers.

Ricky lost the toss and were put in to bat on a soggy wicket from all the previous rain. The innings started well with the openers building a good partnership and both achieving decent scores. Sam Doyne 20 and Rory 18. Then the ship was further steadied by Bilal who scored 30 and was supported by Ken Brown with a decent 13 and Raj with another double figure score of 10. A total of 119 in 40 overs was defend-able on a pitch offering a great deal of assistance to the bowlers.

Following the usual quality tea from Lisa it was time for the bowlers to do their job. Which they did supported by good fielding all through their innings. Rajesh Paul opened with some pace (9 overs 1 for 27) supported by accurate bowling from the always dependable Steve Hearn (7.1 overs 2 for 13) . The remaining bowlers kept it tight especially Richard Kenny (4 overs for 6 runs). The fielding was on point throughout the innings, including a full length diving stop from veteran Jon Wood.

Goodwill eventually achieved the total in the last over. This was followed by a few pints by both teams in the sun after the game which is exactly how any game of Cricket should. A friendly and thoroughly enjoyable game
Next Ricky Sunday game is June 4, although there is a T20 against Watford Town on Friday June 2
