4 wins in 5 games shows the boys have real potential

After losing all the first 5 games of the season, the U14's were stuck and looking down and out. Culminating in a game against Chorleywood where, without any A team players, Chorleywood forced Ricky to play the game with our second string – the result a crushing 6 wicket defeat.
However we knew they were a good team and it was just a matter of hard work and application that would make it come good.
The fight back started with a good win against West Herts by 25 runs thanks to some great bowling. The boys played West Herts again and on a warm evening triumphed by by just 3 runs. Jiwan Soar got 52 and Owen Blackwell 20.
The we faced Langlebury and Jivi (50) and Owen (24) put on 68 to help post 112 whilst Scott Jackson with 4-7 ripped out the middle order to gain revenge for an earlier defeat.
Abbots were a bit too strong for us with their County players and brought-in mercenaries from Middlesex, but the coup-de-grace, the season defining moment, was always going to be the local derby – RCC v Chorleywood for summer bragging rights.
Chorleywood batted first and young Henry Hinley batted brilliantly for them scoring 50 not out. But he was pretty much a lone gun in the face of the Rickmansworth posse. Like an Elvis Presely concert, once the main man had left the building there was nothing left but smoke. Scott Jackson once again took 3-6 with his tricky off breaks, and only one player scored double figures apart from Henry. The boys held every catch apart from a sharp caught and bowled to Owen, and a score of 94/7 was never going to be enough.
Jivi and Jiwan, both with half-centuries already this season, started brightly and were well up with the rate when Jiwan fell to a lose drive. This brought Owen to the crease and he and Jivi put on 59, Owen at times outscoring his partner in crime, before Owen got ran out backing up too far. Jivi then finished the game with two boundaries to maintain his record of never getting out for Ricky, and a score of 95/2 was suitable revenge by Rickmansworth.
And so with 4 wins out of 5, Ricky finished the form team in the League and could have finished in a QF place with just one more win. Every boy and every parent should be pleased and proud of what the boys have achieved in the last 9 years. And look forward to 2014. Lets get off to a quicker start.
